It's #FossilFriday! Here's a close look at a Devonian crinoid stalk from Penn DixieπŸ” Unearthed and photographed by Nathan Newell.
Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who joined us today for our annual Spring Cleanup! πŸ™‚ Volunteers collected bags of litter, removed old bird houses, took out our old, outdated educational signs, AND laid gravel under our big pavilion! Great job everyone! πŸ‘
Happy #FossilFriday! Do you know what this net-like fossil is? Let us know your guesses in the comments ⬇️
Happy Mother's Day!πŸ’ If you're visiting the site today (or at all this spring) keep an eye out for Killdeer mamas and their nests! These ground nesting birds love the rocky areas of our park, so we have quite a few active nests already this year. We do mark nests that are close to busy areas, but please be mindful of where you step because new nests are still popping up and can hard to spot until you're almost on top of them! Killdeer moms & dads both take care of the nest - you can often hear or see them before you see their eggs. Be mindful, be respectful, and enjoy the nature!πŸ₯šπŸ£πŸ₯
Happy #FossilFriday from this cool crinoid columnal! We don't typically find crinoids columnals with flower-shaped internal structures, so we're taking it as a sure sign of spring 🌼 This fossil was unearthed at Penn Dixie by educator Chris P. ⛏ If you see Chris on site, be sure to ask him about this unusual crinoid, he'd be happy to tell you all about it!
Thank you to everyone who visited us on opening weekend! It was great to see old friends again and meet some new ones β›πŸ˜
Happy #FossilFriday! This Eldredgeops rana was unearthed on site by @rockadventurerandy βš’ Swipe to see what this trilo looked like before Randy's prep work⛏ Thank you for sharing your fossil find with us!!
