Rescheduled to Saturday August 27 from 5 to 11 pm.
Penn Dixie presents our annual fossil and astronomy event of the summer: A Midsummer Night’s Adventure!
Join us for a twilight walk across our 54-acre fossil park to search for extinct marine animals, but don’t forget to bring a lantern or flashlight to help uncover the buried geological treasure. Our educators will be on hand to assist novices and experienced fossil hunters alike. Visitors may keep all of the fossils that they find.
For those looking up, sunspot viewing will be available until dusk. After dark, our telescopes will focus on the waxing gibbous Moon and all five naked eye visible planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). The Summer Triangle will be high in the east for good viewing of M57 the Ring Nebula in Lyra and the Star Albireo in Cygnus. Meteors from the recently peaked Perseid Meteor Shower will also be visible. Red Top will be on site serving hot dogs and sandwiches.
Admission to A Midsummer Night’s Adventure is $9 for adults and $7 for children; Penn Dixie members attend for free.
